What is oral sedation?
Oral sedation is given in pill form. Working within minutes, oral sedation lasts for hours. This sedation keeps you completely relaxed and at ease throughout your entire appointment.
What is nitrous sedation
Nitrous sedation is often referred to as laughing gas. This type of sedation is administered through a mask and takes effect almost immediately.
With sedation, will I need to bring a driver to take me home after my appointment?
The oral sedation takes hours to wear off so a driver is recommended after the visit to safely drive you home. You will need to rest to let the sedation wear away completely. The nitrous sedation is not as strong as oral sedation and will wear off minutes after you remove the mask. When using nitrous sedation, you should be safe to drive home as soon as you leave the office.
Will sedation dentistry make me fall asleep during the entire appointment?
No, both forms of sedation will make you feel deeply relaxed and at ease but not make you fall asleep the whole time. You may drift off during the appointment. However, if you need to respond to Dr. Beckham you can. Surrounding smells and sounds will not bother you and you may not even remember the appointment after the sedation wears off.
Has sedation helped other patients who suffer from dental fears and anxiety?
Yes! Sedation dentistry has changed the way many feel about dental appointments. For even short dental exams and cleanings, sedation dentistry can be used to help you feel at ease and completely relaxed. Giving sedation dentistry a try can change your view of the dentist and make your visits something you will no longer dread.
